Corsham's Paralympian local hero Stephanie Millward is a well known figure locally, having gone to Primary School in Box and then on to Corsham School, training for a long time at what is now the Springfield Campus. She was born in 1981 and when she was 15 she broke the British Record for the 100m Backstroke and had hoped to qualify for the Summer Olympics in 2000, before being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) when she was 17. She swam in the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing entering 4 events and coming 4th, 5th 6th and 13th. In the 2012 London Games she won 5 medals, but waited until the 2016 Games in Rio to win her first, and then second, Gold. In this interview for Corsham TV she tells her story.  Watch video >>

In June 2016 a group of 12 cyclists and 19 support crew set out to complete RAAM, the Race Across America. A team of 8 and a team of 4 both raced as 'Antonia's Friends'. 3,090 miles from the West Coast to the East, in 7 days, an event 30% longer than the Tour de France, completed in half the time. They did it to raise money for Asthma UK to celebrate the life of Antonia Thomas, who tragically died from an asthma attack aged 10. You can sign up as an individual or a team and there are Bronze, Silver and Gold standard challenges and all the details are at: www.wiltshire.gov.uk/bigpledge.
